Drag the compass sideways, or use the slider, to turn. The white marker at the top is you; the blue marker is where the wind comes from. Example reading: 18 km/h, gusting 27, from 315° (NW).

Hold up your iPhone and turn. The ring turns with you and the blue marker stays on the bearing the wind is blowing from. As you come round toward downwind, Telltale tells you which way to turn, and how far, until the wind is at your back.

Everything you need to read the wind

One shared core runs the same instrument on your iPhone and your Apple Watch.

Live wind-FROM compass

The white marker at the top is you. The blue marker sits on the bearing the wind is blowing from, and the ring turns as you turn.

Turns you downwind

Within 55° of downwind, Telltale says which way to turn and by how many degrees. Line up within 12° and it reads “Wind at your back”, with a haptic.

Speed, gusts, direction

Current wind speed, gust and direction from Apple WeatherKit for wherever you are, in km/h, m/s or knots.

Wind you can see

Faint streaks drift across the screen with the wind. The harder it blows, the faster, longer and denser they run.

A landscape dashboard

Turn your iPhone sideways: the compass sits beside GPS speed, elevation, heart rate and heading, with time and distance while you record.

Session recording

Record a kitesurf or cycling session, then review it as speed, wind, elevation and heart-rate charts.

Daylight mode

A brighter compass with a white marker, for direct sun and glare.

English and Turkish

The app speaks both. Pick the language in Settings; it applies the next time you open Telltale.

Sessions

Record the session. Read it back.

Start a kitesurf or cycling session on your iPhone or Apple Watch. Afterwards Telltale lays it out: distance, time and speed up top, then speed, wind, elevation and heart rate over time.

Apple Watch

Feel it on your wrist

The same compass runs on Apple Watch. The moment your wrist lines up with the wind, the watch taps you, and it taps differently when the wind is at your back.

Choose the strength in Settings: Off, On or Strong. Strong is a long, hard burst, meant to be felt through a wetsuit.

Tap the dial to switch the centre between wind, speed and elevation. Start, pause and stop a session from the watch, and it stays in step with your iPhone.

Tap the watch face to switch between wind, speed and elevation.

Built for

Kitesurfers, windsurfers, sailors, cyclists

Anyone who needs to know which way the wind is really blowing before they commit to a line, a tack, or a route — Telltale turns that into one glance at a marker on a dial.
