Common questions
What does "wind-FROM" mean?
Telltale uses the meteorological convention: a wind direction is the bearing the wind is blowing FROM, not where it's headed. A reading of 315° means the wind is coming from the northwest. The relative angle on the dial is where that source sits versus the way you're facing: 0° is ahead of you, 90° is to your right, 180° is behind you, and 270° is to your left.
Why does Telltale need my location?
To look up live wind and weather for where you are, to show your GPS speed, distance and elevation while you record a session, and to label a session with a place name. Telltale only asks for location while you're using it, never in the background unless you're actively recording a session.
Why does Telltale ask for Apple Health access?
So your heart rate can appear in a recorded session's charts. On iPhone, Telltale only reads heart-rate samples your Apple Watch has already written to Health. If you record a session with your Apple Watch, Telltale also saves that session to Apple Health as a workout, the same way any fitness app would, so it shows up in the Health app too.
Do I need an Apple Watch to use Telltale?
No. The iPhone app has the full compass, wind and weather dashboard, and session recording on its own. An Apple Watch adds a dedicated wind dial on your wrist, a haptic tap when you face the wind, and continuous heart rate for your session charts.
What is the haptic on Apple Watch for?
Telltale's watch app taps your wrist the moment you point it at the wind's source, so you can find the wind without looking at the screen.
Where are my recorded sessions kept?
On your iPhone only, in the app's own storage. There's no account and no server of ours. Deleting Telltale removes everything it stored on your iPhone. A session recorded on your Apple Watch is also saved to Apple Health as a workout, and that copy stays in the Health app, under Apple's own rules, until you delete it there.
Does Telltale need an internet connection?
Live wind and weather come from Apple WeatherKit, which needs a connection. Your compass heading and GPS speed, distance and elevation keep working without one.
How do I change the language?
Open Telltale's Settings and choose System, English, or Türkçe. It takes effect the next time you open the app.
Is there an Android version?
No. Telltale is built for iPhone and Apple Watch only.
How do I report a bug?
Email us with your iPhone or Apple Watch model, your OS version, and what happened, and add a screenshot if you can. If you're testing through TestFlight, you can also send feedback from the TestFlight app.
How do I delete my data?
Delete Telltale to remove the sessions, favourites and settings it stored on your iPhone. Workouts it already saved to Apple Health stay there until you delete them yourself in the Health app. To have the emails you sent us deleted, ask us. See the privacy policy for the full picture.
